Rock you like a Hurricane
« on: August 27, 2011, 01:10:48 pm »
So because I'm in the supposed path of the hurricane currently attacking the U.S., I figured I could post something about it here.

The media is making a huge deal about it, but I think the worse I will get here will be a lot of rain, and some wind. And I like the rain part, we need some rain, my plants are all wilted from the lack of rain we've had here this year.

But power may go out too, so my internet/online time may be compromised. But I will be back online ASAP.

If anyone else is in the hurricane path and feel like sharing their experience, post on this thread.

I'm in its path.
Perfection is a state that doesn't exist, there is always a way to improve
Impossible is just a word people created so they would feel better when they quit.
So even if one can't reach perfection that doesn't mean its Impossible,It's a goal to strive for till your last breath and only reach with it

And the storm hit us Saturday afternoon, knocking out the power in most of Richmond. The power company says there are over one million homes without electricity and they have no estimated time for repairs.

Other than that, it made a mess with leaves all over my yard.
Thre were broken branches on the streets and a few uprooted trees, but nothing that a strong tropical storm wouldn't normally do.

I can use my phone to check messages, but that costs extra, so I will be back online whenever things are working once again here.

@_@ Was hit at 6 AM. Internet and power stayed on (mostly), but there's a ton of damage in our yard. Way too many leaves to make raking practical. What was essentially a two-story-tall tree snapped about 6 feet up, and we're currently running a chainsaw to try and deal with it.

Cell reception's almost nil, but traffic's flowing. I can't seem to get in touch with my employers at my part-time job to see what the plan is for tomorrow.

In my town, there wasn't any power outages. The worst damage was the leaves all over everything and some flooding in low areas, and that can be taken care of pretty easily once things dry up.

So it was actually less of a problem than some thunderstorms that have hit my town. Imagine that.

Everyone be sure to thank Nash Fraenkel, our gracious landlady, if you see her. She isnt foreclosing on us although ashtyn will likely be late on sim payments :P

It's because of perks like this that I still own the sim through Nash. The Lindens don't give a damn if the earth split in an earthquake and swallowed your house and then a hurricane filled up the hole with water and trees fell on top of it and then a tornado picked it all up and threw it in a volcano. If you're late on tier, they block your account and you have to pay them with money outside of what you might have had on your account and they take the region offline until you've paid them.  ;P

Anyway, still without electricity in my area. Some are saying might be until Friday 'till we maybe have the power back on.

Day 298.... or is it 299? I don't know, I can't tell the day anymore without electricity! Damn the ancients, how the heck did they do this? Oh wait, they were all aliens... Anyway...

No power here yet.
And on even more sad news, I had to throw away everything that was in the freezer. The fridge is still holding at an acceptable temperature range with all the bags of ice we crammed into it, but stuff in the freezer started to thaw.

Driving around the neighborhood, we saw some of the trees that are possibly responsible for this, fallen over the power lines. Damn you trees!
And no crews from the electric company were working on them, so they are either lazy or overworked elsewhere. Either way, they need to get things fixed and working again!

Welcome back Ash! *hugs* I'm pleased to report that storm damage in Australia was minimal.
