Deep in the Caves, near Phoenix Castle, Hazel has been working on a project to attempt to cultivate plants underground. Radem and Jaspian's slave labor was used to dig deep trenches in the rock floor of the cave, and to bring in fertile soil from the surface. Irrigation ditches were also dug, but of course, a crucial element was missing: Sunlight!
So the cougar has used some new knowledge acquired (you need to investigate IC if you want to know about it), to create an artificial miniature sun in the Caves. The 6 previous attempts failed catastrophically, more than once almost killing the cougar and Radem. But last night the 7th attempt came to fruition and currently a miniature artificial sun is floating above a small tilled earth patch in the Caves.
Signs were posted around the area warning of the unknown stability of the experiment - it's not known if it could go BOOM! anytime! - and that anyone found throwing anything at the artificial sun will have their hands cut off, for daring to interfer with the experiment! (the severity of the punishment indicates it's not a good idea to throw anything at the artifical sun)
For anyone who investigates, the 'sun' radiates light and heat making the area there pleasantly warm like a nice summer's day (humans could get a tan), so in those aspects it works exactly like the real sun, but for those with magical sight they would know that the artificial sun is a ball of immensely concentrated tass (about a ton of the stuff in less than a cubic-foot volume). It can not be moved magically, and if anyone would try to poke it with something... IM a staff member for the consequences.
