There are two estabilished types of economy in Lismore:

    The barter System:
        Items are traded for their intrinsic value. For example, you may walk up to the tavern, and offer a few tanned hides in exchange for a meal. Or a barrel of ale for cooking utensils. There is no actual 'money' exchange in these types of transactions.

    The Monetary System:
        Items are traded in exchange of estabilished forms of currency. The most common forms of currency through history were precious and semi-precious metals, such as copper, silver, and gold, and that's what's considered 'money' in Lismore.
        Without getting into complicated coin shapes or weight or size ratio conversions, the official exchange rate (10:1) goes as follows:
       
            1 gold coin = 10 silver coins
            1 silver coin = 10 copper coins





In both these systems, the value of the merchandise ultimately is determined by the trading parties, so you might find a great variety of costs depending on where you buy, but below follows a simplified chart of how much certain standard things might cost:

Fruit juice:    most 5 copper, exotic or out of season 1 silver
Milk:                5 copper - 1 silver depending on freshness
Tea:                5 copper - 1 gold depending on rarity
Coffee:            2 silver [it's rare]
Sugar:             5 copper for two tablespoons

Common ale or rum:         1 silver per mug
Common spirits:               1 silver per shot
Common wine:                 1 silver per glass
Good wine:                      2 silver per glass

Fish:             market value, usually 2 silver (can depends on type of fish, size and freshness)
Chicken:       2 silver for a roast chicken
Beef:            market value; sirloin 3 silver, filet 5 silver, prime filet 9 silver

Basic Steel Sword:            40 gold
High-Quality Sword:         300 gold
Basic Axe:                           5 gold
Battle Axe:                        20 gold

Slave (untrained):                  50 gold
Slave (basic trained):            100 gold
Slave (specialized):                expensive
Dowry (high):                         4000 gold

Chicken:                          1 to 5 gold
Donkey/Mule:                  10 to 50 gold
Sheep/Goat:                    5 to 20 gold
Cow:                                20 gold
Horse (basic, riding):       20 to 100 gold
Horse (warhorse):           100 to 200 gold

Row Boat:                      20 to 50 gold
Small sea vessel:           200 gold
Ship:                              20000 gold

House in Phoenix:         10000 to 20000 gold
House in the City:          50000 gold
