Ramau
(Playable race, contact Tenaar Feiri for approval)
Short about them: The Ramau are a race created by Tenaar Feiri. They are a largely alien race to the world, and they are
not demonic.
The Ramau are the precursors to races such as the Fenramau or the
Foxramau, and they have twin tails, large caracal-like ears, a silky black & brown/tan-ish striped fur & elongated almost aardwolf-like faces. Ramau eyes can typically be blue, blueish purple, purple, red, brown or hazel. In some rare cases, they may develop a more prismatic colour palette. Their usage of magic may influence this.
Ramau are not a physically adept race; they simply do not obtain the physical strength other races may gain, as their dependence of magic long since eliminated the need for physical strength. As a result, they are relatively short in stature, and slender. Male Ramau tend to be taller than females & have less defined curves while female Ramau tend to have longer tails and shorter ears.
Many female Ramau are very curvaceous, having a tendency to gather fat around their hips and around their chest, whereas on the male it tends to gather around the belly and the extremities.
Overweight Ramau are practically unheard of, and they are shunned from Ramau society as it’s considered misuse of resources for them to become so large.
As desert creatures, overweight Ramau who are shunned typically journey out into the desert where nobody really knows if they survive or simply perish.
The Ramau are not physically sturdy & are very easily injured.
Ordinary Ramau are practically infertile, able to conceive typically one or two children in roughly a century, but there exists a small amount of hermaphrodites that the Ramau call the “Two-Souled.”
Ramau Two-Souls are extremely fertile, to the point where they have trouble avoiding impregnating or getting pregnant from mating. They have functional male and female genitalia.
It’s worth noting that Ramau Two-Souls are extremely rare; to have more than 3 or 4 of them in a span of a thousand years is essentially unheard of.
Special considerations: When playing a Ramau, they are subject to a highly elitist & pretty racist culture. A typical Ramau respects other races well enough to stay out of trouble, but they view them as lesser. Almost like animals, even. Ramau who mate with non-ramau are considered perverted but though it's highly frowned upon, it is unlikely graduate beyond petty disapprovals from other ramau.
The Ramau consider their ankles to be a dirty/unclean place. It is a weakness that they seek to cover up, but it is also the only part of themselves that they look at like that. This means that a typical Ramau will, under all circumstances sans when they're alone or in a highly private engagement, make the utmost efforts to keep them covered. Traditional ankle coverage are woolen leggings dyed in a colour of the Ramau's choice, that cover from the ankles up to the hips. To expose their ankles in public is extremely frowned upon and likely to get them shunned by other Ramau, and in some cases it may even earn the offender a punishment. A great deal of shame would be associated with the ankles, but as this has been a practice of the Ramau for a very long time, the ankle is also their most erogenous zone. To even touch the ankle of someone they are not mated with, it is considered extremely taboo.
Ramau only need to wear their leggings to be decent; it is perfectly acceptable to show up at any event, special or otherwise, in just their leggings & nothing else.
The Ramau are a sexually liberated people. Though they do take mates through an elaborate ritual involving dancing and sharing of tea, they are polyamorous & are typically openly so. Sex is as natural to them as breathing & there is no shame associated with random sexual encounters. If a Ramau is horny, they either just ask other Ramau to play, or just bend either themselves or someone else over. Rape is considered unacceptable, but Ramau society -- which is built on trust between their own kin -- only define a sexual encounter as rape if one of the involved individuals vocally protests & the other does not respect that protest. Being built on this system of trust, Ramau judgment will favour the individual who first reports that they were raped & swift punishment will be carried out on the alleged offender. The Ramau value their limited reproductive ability far too much to compromise it even in rapists, but enslavement or other creative non-lethal punishments (such as burying someone to their neck in sand for days -- with a cage around their chest to allow them to breathe) are perfectly acceptable.
Ramau rape victims are much less likely to suffer trauma other races may experience, due to the casualness of their sexual behaviour. With the lacking significance of sex as an emotional entity, they are typically able to move on once their injuries heal.
Ramau, being physically weak, are very vulnerable to physical damage of any kind. Their bones break easier than most races; they do not have the advanced muscle development of other races. They may experience showing defined musculature, but there is very little power behind them.
Their blood is rumoured to have special healing abilities that can be brought out with alchemy for potion-making, but these are unproven.
Their history, summarized: The Ramau are an alien race to the world. They come from a different planet altogether where they were the dominant species. This place was called Amoria & consisted largely of deserts.
The Ramau people were highly technologically advanced, relying on magical machines to sustain them. In their Amorian capitol, they benefited from using Mana as an energy source, powering these machines, the lights on their streets and in their home & numerous other appliances and even weapons. They possessed a machine that could rejuvenate their bodies back to their 12 year-old state, and though their natural lifespan could be as much as 3000 years, this machine made them effectively immortal.
Unfortunately, unbeknownst to them, it also rendered their males’ sperm almost unable to latch on to a female egg, and females’ wombs were almost unable to hold them once fertilized. Praying to their god, Yuun, the Two-Souls saved them from extinction although even then they were balancing precariously on the edge between survival and extinction.
Eventually they were discovered by a powerful arch-demon named
Oba-Musa. He sought to create a race that could help him take over the mortal world on Earth, and he abducted several specimens of Ramau to experiment on. It goes without saying that the Ramau wouldn’t have any of it, and once it became clear to Oba-Musa that they were going to be a challenge, he incited a war between them and every other sentient race on Amoria.
The Ramau lost. As their capitol fell, the remaining 600 survivors gathered behind the protection of their Feyrn – the emperor of their people. His name was Yuun-a, given to him when he accepted his position and was infused with their god’s essence.
Yuun-a, in his desperation to save what’s left of his people, tore open a portal through Space itself through which the survivors escaped. Yuun-a closed it after them and stayed behind to take as many of their enemies down with him as he could before he perished.
It is believed that the Ramau were notoriously bad at documenting their own technological prowess. The first thing they built once they found themselves in that unknown desert, later to be identified as the Saharan Desert upon Earth, was a machine that transformed ley-line energies into food. With this machine to sustain them, they began to build a new empire for themselves, starting with a city built around an oasis. This became known as the City of Ramanastre.
The Ramau erected an eternal sandstorm around the city to keep intruders away, and it worked for the most part. The occasional trespasser was swiftly dealt with by a
Sunwalker.A new Feyrn was chosen, but as he was not appointed by their god – whose presence had been absent since they arrived at their new home. Therefore the Feyrn did not assume the title of Yuun-a.
Nearly 600 years pass. Ramanastre grew and their population fell. Then a miracle: The Feyrn’s daughter is born a Two-Soul. She was raised as a princess of Ramanastre, treasured by all as the rare creature that she was. Then a few years later, another Two-Soul was born.
The Feyrn’s daughter, Princess Teren An’Nodas, invoked her right to travel the world as she came into adulthood & she was granted that privilege. She left Ramanastre and eventually made her way to Lismore, where she stayed for a decade. She married a foxramau named Edhel Valentine & carried several of his children to term, though she escaped Lismore again after the
Valentine Incident and the death of Edhel. She stole with her one of the Valentines’ demon fennecs.
Upon her return to Ramanastre, however, the princess had changed. She had become cruel and ruthless, and her father suffered a mysterious death within months of her return. She took the throne along with her fennec. This turned into a pivotal point for the Ramau.
The fennec she brought with her was extremely fertile; he could impregnate the Ramau women, and he produced more than enough seed for the task. A new decree was made, that all females were to carry this fennec’s babes, that they would save what they could of their race.
It worked; the Second Sons were born, and they proved to be able to reproduce on your own.
But the Ramau were a proud race. Civil war erupted. Purebred Ramau challenged Teren and her reign, and Teren sent the Sunwalkers upon them. The meagre Ramau population could not withstand the assault and were forced to flee. Their numbers had been cut down to double digits by the time they managed to escape.
One of them made their way to Lismore and sought refuge there. That was Khazim En’Cennar. He would later go on to lead the newest Ramau chapter.
Their population is steadily increasing…
Sunwalkers
(non-playable)
Sunwalkers are Ramau who were warped to almost beyond recognition. This was done as part of a ritual which empowered them with Solar magic and made them incredibly strong. To achieve Sunwalker status, they sacrifice their eyes & replace them with black lenses that grant them a 360-degree vision.
Sunwalkers are sentient beings with the ability to think for themselves, under specific circumstances, but mostly they obey the Feyrn. To help control them, Ramanastre has three control towers erected which are constantly sensing the surrounding deserts for any sign of life. When they detect irregularities, they summon a Sunwalker to investigate. The only way to hide from these towers is to be shrouded in Aluminum. It also hides you from their sight.
Sunwalkers in battle are terrifying to behold; they move almost faster than the eye can see & strike with unparalleled precision and conviction. They wield powerful Solar magic, which use the power of the Sun to rain holy fire upon their foes. Legend has it that a single Sunwalker could destroy the fabled Tower of Babel, if it so wished.
During the escape from Ramanastre, the ramau refugees invoked a ritual which roughly translates to “The Sun’s Release.” This ritual must be performed by a priest & requires the sacrifice of three lives: an adult male, an adult female & a child of any gender, and when performed, it severs the Sunwalkers’ connection to the Feyrn, granting them complete autonomy. It was a risky tactic; the Sunwalkers could still choose to side with the Feyrn. Most of them were quick to leave Ramanastre and disappear into the sandstorm. A few of them protected the refugees during their escape against the many who still chose to remain.
It is suspected that the Feyrn’s control of the Sunwalkers has since been restored, and no ramau refugee is to come anywhere close to the city. In fact they are advised to stay out of the Saharan desert altogether.
