Impressive Rocks - A Guide to the Skylands' Isles
« on: September 15, 2016, 12:48:12 am »
This topic is currently under construction, but will be used to keep track of the various significant islands that have been discovered or established in the Skylands. The first post will contain an index of hyperlinks, sorted generally by the empire/kingdom jurisdiction each island falls under, if any.

Please add your islands of interest! If your island/location hasn't been approved or isn't part of an event, try to poke a staff member inworld before posting for approval. Please try to give some indication as to the jurisdiction of a kingdom, if any, the island belongs to.

As this is a library topic, all information in this topic is publicly available to all Lismore's characters short of those who can't read. That being said, if you add an island, do NOT include information that Lismore should not be aware of.

Sanguis

Sanguis is the capital city of the Crimson Empire. The city is very well built up, featuring many elaborate structures, and heavily decorated in the Empire's red-gold colors. In addition to a city itself, Sanguis contains some of the Crimson Empire's largest and most elaborate training grounds, and is the home city of their renowned Honor Guard warriors. Queen Brielle Cortez rules the empire from Sanguis Castle, which is also where General Aisling O Luain commands it's armies.

The city itself doesn't have many resources, but features a great many talented craftsmen, and serves as the center hub of trade, culture and authority for the entire Crimson Empire. Sanguis is located a two day's flight by gryphon south-east of Lismore.

Dragon's Bastion

Dragon's Bastion is the capital city of the Steel Isles. It's a rough, hot land, somewhat barren for agriculture but very strong in minerals and metals. The built-up areas of Dragon's Bastion are dominated by nordic-like buildings in style, but built more out of stone than wood. In addition to being home to the largest number of the Steel Isle's people, Dragon's Bastion is, as the name would suggest, the primary roost/den of the kingdom's dragons.

King Balmung Stonefall rules the Steel Isles, alongside his dragon, Kaiser Arbalon, from the fortress-castle Steeltop. This is also the home of the Steel Isle's general and crown prince, Charon.

In addition to the island itself, there is also a massive body of rock just off of the land of Dragon's Bastion which is rich in metals, and is large enough to likely take the next hundred or so years to mine through, and is largely dominated by an unusually stout iron which seems only to be found in this body of stone and metal.

Progeneta

Progeneta is the capital-city of the First Kingdom. Little is yet known about this land, and this entry will remain fairly short until more is discovered.

What is known about the seat of the First Kingdom's power is that it's a large and very heavily fortified island-city, and that it's supposed god-king resides somewhere on it.

The Chapel of Cyndarr's Flame

The Chapel, owned by the Children of Cyndarr, is a large, fortified monastery which serves as the headquarters of the Children of Cyndarr's holy warriors. Only a few rooms have been seen so far, but included is a very large prayer and service area, including a vengeful-looking statue, and a set of praying cushions surrounded by a pool of water.

The Raptor commands the Children from the chapel.

The island that the chapel is built on does not have any traditional resources, but it is said that something about the grounds of the island rather amplifies the strength/potency of holy items crafted on it, such as blessed water, and makes it a popular destination for those who have earned the Children's trust enough to be allowed there without being arrested on sight.

Baal's Respite

Baal's Respite is a relatively seedy brothel and bar type establishment, where Baal, one of the Skyland Underworld's prominent operators can generally be found. It's at this location that he hires capable individuals to carry out missions and contracts, and distributes rewards.

While for most in the Skylands this isn't an easy place to find, Lismore's people have been there enough times that directions probably aren't hard to come by. This has been known to be a usable location for those fugitive enough of the law that they cannot remain in Lismore at all, though order in the Respite is enforced through harsh, violent punishments, so is not always the best place for troublemakers.

Gryphon's Talon

A fairly small island on the edge of Steel Isle territory facing the Crimson lands, this place became a tinderbox for the conflicts in the region.

Serving as a resupply outpost the resources are mostly focused around agriculture and smithing. Home island of the Steel Isle prince's bodyguard, Yale.

(Will add more when not on phone)

Kingdom of Cindergold

Cindergold is a large kingdom far to the North of the allied territories - it's landscape, plantlife and wildlife are reminiscent of renaissance England.

It's well known, however, that Cindergold is no longer a safe place to visit - some few years ago, the ruling family and entire guard force were overwhelmed by a massive criminal rebellion, and that the whole kingdom is now being wrestled over for control by multiple, exceedingly ruthless factions.

The loss of Cindergold as a trading hub was devastating to many village-islands.
