Event Player's Guide
« on: August 21, 2015, 03:18:46 pm »
Hello, everyone! I thought it was time to remake this post. This is a guide for anyone who's planning on playing events now or in the future. Even if you've played in events before, please go ahead and skim through.

1. Preparation
  • In any event, it's very important that you remember to prepare. Be sure you have available information on what the event's about, and know what time and date it's going to be held. If you sign up for an event and don't respond to the scheduling, you risk the event proceeding without you if you can't make the time and date. Most scheduling is done on the forums, so if you have signed up for an event, check the forums every day.
  • While we're always glad to entertain and provide for ideas during an event - IE, things you want to happen to your character or things you want your character to do, you must let the event's GM know in advance what you're planning, otherwise it may not be possible to accommodate you.

2. Playing in events
  • Please keep in mind that events are a naturally lengthy affair. Posts should be kept down to somewhat minimal detail and ideally be made within 5 minutes of the last post, excluding circumstances where a lot of typing is necessary.
  • Be respectful during events - they tend to be, even when they're fun to host, complex and attention-demanding things! The more the GM has to break to deal with issues outside the event itself, the more delays and breaks there will be in the action.
  • Be attentive! Make sure you read through everyone's posts before you make your own, if you do not it is very likely that you'll miss important details and have to retype your post anyways.
  • Pretyping - If you intend to pretype your posts before it is your turn, please do so in notepad, wordpad or an equivilent program outside of SL. It is very, very common, even for experienced roleplayers, to accidentally hit enter and post out of order when they pretype their posts inside SL. Just don't risk the issue and type it somewhere you can't accidentally post it in advance!

3. Leaving an event
  • If you have to leave an event early, please speak to the GM first so that a reason for your character's departure or incapacitate can be decided to your liking. If you leave without warning, you will have to live with whatever the GM ruled as the reason.
  • If you want to know what happened during the event, contact the scene's GM! They can either give you a summary, or may be able to provide you logs.

4. Other Notes
  • Most importantly, remember: During any scene, unless a decision falls clearly outside of linden labs rules or SL rules, whatever the scene's coordinator/GM says goes. No ifs ands or buts! If you believe the scene's coordinator is doing something outside sim or LL rules, contact another admin. Please do not stir further drama by attempting to argue the point on the spot.
  • Keep in mind that if you cause drama or trouble during an event, an EC does have the right to remove you from event play, or to refuse to allow you to play in their events. Follow the rules above, and this should never be an issue!
  • Remember, the purpose in an event is to have fun yourself, and make sure those you're playing with do, too! Try not to hog the spotlight, and give everyone else a chance to get involved. Avoid doing anything that would sacrifice the enjoyment of others for your own! It's obvious and frowned upon when it happens!
