Official "THE EVENT IS ABOUT TO START" Disclaimer:
« Reply #15 on: June 16, 2012, 12:56:04 pm »
Ok, so that I don't have to repeat myself for everybody who joins the event, I'm posting here the evil scary official "THE EVENT IS ABOUT TO START - THESE ARE THE RULES" disclaimer. Our aim is to promote and to have fun with this event, so please observe these guidelines:

  • First rule of Fight Club is....  Ok, wrong movie. First rule is no OOC drama whatsoever.

  • Keep OOC chat to the absolute necessary on the LocalChat. Use the GroupChat for OOC conversations and/or remarks. IMs for personal matters.

  • Please turn off any unecessary AOs, animations, gestures, flashy thingies, HUDs and anything that might cause lag. SL is a fragile thing and even though the Lindens advertise we can have 100 people in the sim, we know it starts to break down at around 20, so let's use our resources wisely.

  • The balrog in question is not your average foe. This is like the final boss on a video game: You hit it ten times for 999999 damage, and it still stands. Don't expect it to go down because you have the super-mega-ultra-maximum attack of all-vanquishing, this thing is not gonna go down because of any one single hero. It will take group effort to take it down. I'm saying this here because I don't want to hear anyone whining about how "but my attack says it causes demons to go bye-bye!". This isn't the average demon.

  • While character death is pretty much always an option to the player (only one player ever managed to accidentally kill his character), if you do something stupid (or heroic) like stand in the way of the all-mighty-blast-of-doom, or jump into a lava pit while not having any defenses against such, we might declare your character dead. So be mindful of what you do and where you stand. What this means is don't do anything stupid and expect to live through it.  :P

  • Be mindful of the length of your posts and the number of actions you take while fighting. I would like not to be doing this 'till midnight. So please observe these rules:
    • If someone takes too long to post, we might skip their turn in order to keep things moving. You get back in at your next turn.
    • Be mindful of the number of actions you take in a single post: Ideally, you should not take more than two major actions (an attack and a block, or moving and attacking), or three minor actions (drawing your bow, getting an arrow dipped in poison, setting the arrow in the bow and taking aim). If you have super-agility or something like that, you can stretch this a little bit, but remember you're not the only one fighting, let the others have a turn too.
    • If you need to go idle, AFK, BRB, or anything that puts the RP on hold, say so, and you'll be skipped 'till you're back.

  • We the staff love everybody, but if someone's post gets ignored/overlooked/forgotten, don't take it personally, we might have just had a lapse of concentration. Big events can be very taxing. If we don't count in your post, be assured it was not intentional, and be mature about it.

  • Please respect any decisions/actions taken by the staff during this event. If you don't like it, you can remove yourself from the event, but whatever you do, save fighting about it for later. Please don't argue with the staff during the event.

Thank you for your attention, I'm sure I forgot a bunch of things I was supposed to say, see you in-world, have fun!  :)

A post was made stating specifically that we were looking at doing it this weekend.. If you were already gone when it was made, how could you expect us to have possibly known that? I didn't see you post it anywhere, and I doubt you told a GM or EC.

We have been delaying this event for weeks.

We needed 100 things to fall into place, and never got more than 50 at time. This time we got around 89 things in place, so we went for it. I'm sorry to anyone who wanted to participate but didn't get the chance. There will be more events, don't worry about it.  :)

Thanks very much to everybody who participated! And sorry to those who couldn't join us. There will be more events, don't worry!

Specially thanks to Radem who helped in the fight against the balrog in the Caves, and those who took their time to help us coordinate our pose order.

And thanks to the plaeyrs! We hope you had fun. Things might look gloomy with the IC losses, but more interesting RP is to come from what happened tonight, so, stay tuned!  :)

(I'll let Ani post about the city battle because was the boss there - but what I have to say too is thanks to Ani and his team)

Well considering I was walking into work at 10pm. Got out of work at 5:30am and was on the road to drive 6 hours to ac at 6 am.  So yea I was on the road.

Maby if it was posted in the middle of the week instead of a short notice it would have been better. I am all for events and such..just a bit more extended warning. With it being at the doorstep for the place that I help manage.. yea ima little bummed but irl > sl.

Plus planning events on furcon weekends is a bit iffy. I know very large portion of the staff is EU based (least from what I have noticed from writing down the tangled web of "who is this alt today" game)  but something else to take into consideration.

Well to be honest this has been in planning and has been announced well ahead of time, not to mention that there were plenty of people present who did not go to Anthrocon.

Further more, sorry to say but I'm the only official staff member that is European, all the other admins are American.

As stated above, most of our staff is in US time zones, and I could /not/ have been available during the week, as I have to work. Now, while it is regrettable that you missed the event, it's not really fair or logical to place blame or be unhappy with us because of it. We had to host this event while the essential players were actually available to be there, and before next Christmas came around!

And yes, irl > SL. This applies for staff just like it does anyone else, we have our own demanding real lives to deal with.
