Lismore: Past and Present (IC INFORMATION!)

(This post contains a history of Lismore from past to present. Everything in here is icly available information from the library or other such places.)

The following is the best account of major events in Lismore since the start of the city's road to emancipation. This writing will doubtlessly have future volumes, to account for any errors in history or new history that may come up as time goes on.

I. The Road to Emancipation

There was not always a city in Lismore - before the city begun, there were at least two other groups on the island - those of the Zenko Monastery, and the people and creatures of the forests. Neither opposed to the arrival of Ashtyn, the city's first lord, when he arrived on the island - Lismore's growth into a city was gradual, starting from a single lighthouse and slowly growing as interest in the island as a trading port grew. The first hundred years of the first age of Lismore largely marked the expansion of the city and economical growth of the island, and the next decades would mark further expansion as natural resources hidden in the island were discovered.

II. The First War

Close to the 300th year, the next major group (at least, in the long run) would arrive, the Tirrenelda' Tribe, then lead by Glasere. On the 300th year, reportedly resulting from the intervention of the Zenko's deity, the tower that was said to have been sanding for many thousands of years suffered a devastating explosion and fell. This would mark the beginning of one of the island's bloodiest and longest wars, against what is now known as the Twisting Sands Order, lead by a mysterious being known as The Face. During the start of this threat, the newly formed Zenko, under new leadership, became a sovereign faction once again and took up the duty of defending the island against this new threat. This marked the beginning of the second age - it would be during this time that the unstable efforts to try and establish a longstanding organization in the caves would be resolved as another new group, named Phoenix, took hold.

III. The Troubled Years

Many years of the second age were spent focused on the conflict that marked it's beginning - the war never truly took one direction or the other, most plans from either side to attack the other ended in failure, though there were many times when the desert and the connecting portal seemed to have been closed, only to open again or re-present itself as a threat later on.  As this conflict went on, Lismore began to suffer many new threats, a major name among them being Collie Madfang, a pirate overlord who had already been wreaking absolute havoc on the seas for many years before. Collie would initiate a few lightweight attacks on the city, before seemingly leaving it alone.

IV. The Seaborn Invasion

Disaster would strike again, however, beginning with the surfacing of one of the island's greatest threats to date, a massive demon of shadow and flame known as a balrog began attacking residents and visitors of the caves on and off - eventually, a group was sent down into the caves to confront the balrog. This was considered by many to be a dark day, as both the Tribe and the City lost their leaders to the balrog, Glasere having been slain and Ashtyn having been taken to another plane of existance with the balrog in an effort to end it as a threat. During this very same time, Collie had launched a great offensive against the city, one that was stopped by the efforts of Lismore's defenders, and by a new individual, the fennec Lucian, who laid claim to and was granted the throne of the city for his efforts.

V. The Calm Before the Storm

Some time after Lucian took over, Collie would send his men to ravage the island once more, but this time held nothing back - despite the greatest efforts of the defenders, many were slain, and after a deliberate explosion in the Zenko's mana springs, the entirety of the Zenko and almost all of the city were completely ruined. The next two years were spent rebuilding and recovering from this crushing defeat, and lismore was left leaderless for a time due to Lucian's death on the field. Not long after Xian took leadership of the city and things seemed to have just finished recovering, disaster would strike one again on a scale not seen to the day..

VI. The End of Days

It was discovered that a book of incredible power and importance had been lying in Lismore for some time - this tome was rumored to lead to an artifact that possessed such power that it could make one capable of destroying a deity! Sensing the potential danger of this tome falling into the wrong hands, it was decided that it would be kept in a safe location and not spoken of as it was researched and studied to find this artifact - but the secret would not be kept long, and soon all of Lismore's oldest and even some new enemies would descend upon the island in search of this tome - a majority of Lismore's defenders were slain in this horrific war, and just before the city would be overtaken and the book claimed by the enemies, two extra-dimensional beings, named Fate and Shyon - beings which Lismore's residents have dealt with on multiple occasions - descended on the island, urging those who had survived to flee as the island was moved to a completely different dimension and picked up into the very sky.

VII. The Future

When the island stabilized in it's new location, those who had fled found themselves upon it in the middle of the city, surrounded by those who had fallen in combat, alive and well once again - this had been explained as an effort between Shyon, one who has the ability to move souls between dimensions, and Fate, who oversees Limbo. Lismore's time since, and to this very moment, have largely been spent in an effort to learn more about it's current surroundings and new location, and to try and adapt to such an incredible change.

...because some people have wondered what the former location of the island looks like and what's there now.... Well, there's a port now. And the place looks pretty much like this...
