Sunwalkers are the elite Ramani guards. Traditionally they protect the Ramau Feyrn, and are devoted and loyal to the death to their leader. It was not clear how sunwalkers came to be, it was thought it was a power the Feyrn alone possessed, but after translating ancient scrolls provided to the Lismorean Ramaus bu the Kun Qalasi fennecs, the ritual for creating Sunwalkers is now known.
Because this is considered sacred part of the Ramani culture, access to this information is restricted and requires special permission from the head librarian!
To perform the ritual, one requires a few arcane ingredients, arcane runes and casting circles, the proper incantations, all of which are described in the original and translated scrolls, and a ramau. It's not known if the procedure works on other species.
The ritual is brief, and can be performed in a couple of hours. If successful (there is a 1-in-20 failure rate), the ramau upon whom the ritual was performed will become a Sunwalker: A creature still with most ramau-like features, though considerably stronger, with powers often associated with plasma fire, who moves by levitating a few inches above the ground, and can take on flight for short periods. Sunwalkers are considerably strong and sturdy, and while they retain most of their personality, they are absolutely devoted to the one who creates them, incapable of betrayal or disobedience.
Part of becoming a Sunwalker, though, involves the carving out of the eyes and replacing them with magical black lenses that are attached over the sockets. These lenses prove a fairly significant weakness to Sunwalkers, but they allow them to see things in any environment as well as track energy sources and giving them a full 360 degree magical vision. So while they can't see physical non-magical things coming at them from behind, they will see a magical fireball, or a powerful mage trying to flank them. The lenses can be replaced and a Sunwalker will typically carry one pair of backups just in case.
Yuun Sunwalkers (those created by the ramau god himself) have the added attribute of 'holy' to their abilities.
