Shrines of the Temple
« on: July 16, 2015, 06:43:23 am »
This topic is still being developed.

Nephele's Shrine

Quick Rundown
  • Nephele is the goddess of peace, nature and balance, her presence rests over most of the temple, as well as the forest attatched to it.
  • A small group of glade guardians live around an ancient ruin in the forest, faithful to Nephele.
  • Mariah primarily manages the shrine, but the leader of the guardians, Fang, can perform many of it's rituals and services.

OOC Rules and Effects
  • The area in Nephele's shrine is a more concentrated feeling of the warmth and peace that permeates the whole temple. One would find it very difficult to become angry or violent while in the shrinehouse.
  • Those who are meditating in the shrine or praying may find that the small animals that often enter temple grounds are comfortable with approaching them.
  • The aura of the shrine naturally lends itself well to meditation, helping to maintain one's internal balance.
  • If injured, those without immediately fatal injuries will find that they will be stabilized long enough for a healer to bring them back to health, so long as they stay directly in the shrine house. Injuries will also heal a little faster.

Inari's Shrine

Quick Rundown
  • Inari is the goddess of agriculture, general prosperity, fertility, rice, tea, foxes, and flame (thanks Wikipedia for most of that!). She is a good-aligned goddess; in D&D terms, she’d likely be Neutral Good.
  • Her presence in Lismore is recent, but she made quite a debut and it’s attracted a lot of interest from the townsfolk. Despite this, she doesn’t make herself or her power known with a lot of flash.
  • Foxes are special animals to the pantheon, they serve as her watchers, guardians, and messengers, and they can frequently be seen around the temple grounds.
  • Most of those plants you see on the grounds are tea.

OOC Rules and Effects
  • Most people feel a sense of warmth and safety while on the grounds. This is OOCly optional.
  • Demons tend to feel a sense ranging from distinct unrest to acute pain while walking on the sanctified grounds that make up the temple area. (Players of demonic or partially demonic characters are welcome to contact Radem or Mariah OOCly to discuss why this is, and what, if anything, they can do about it.)
  • No one dies of exposure to the elements while on temple grounds.
  • Attempts to conceive children on the grounds will be much more likely to succeed, and yield healthy offspring.
  • Anyone, even the blind, can see (or otherwise sense) Inari’s flame from anywhere on the grounds.
  • Followers of Inari in good standing can sleep safely on the grounds; if someone attempts to cause them harm, at the very least they will be awoken by the fox guardians with enough time to defend themselves. More devout followers may receive more protection.

Senka's Shrine

Quick Rundown
  • Senka is the goddess of change, positive growth, butterflies and tasks. She can be considered a neutral-good goddess.
  • She tends to interact more directly with mortals than many gods, but direct speech is rare.
  • The butterflies around the shrine always seem to evade those that try to catch them, just barely,  and will settle on those who remain still in the shrine long enough.

OOC Rules and Effects

  • Those who spend time in the shrine may feel themselves more motivated to make changes in their lives that they'd already been considering making.
  • Those who have tasks on a regular basis for Senka may feel a subtle healing effect, and will recover more quickly if they rest in the shrine.
  • Those who hate change may feel uneasy in her shrine.
  • The shrine's attendant, Ichtlarin, may provide able characters with different tasks.

Church of Light Shrine

Quick Rundown
  • The Church of Light is about personal spiritual growth, the divine origin in all beings and the promise that at the end of a long night there will always be the dawn.
  • This faith is a universal one, meaning, it accepts and supports anyone seeking empowerment by finding the divinity and light within oneself.
  • The Shrine is primarily managed by Priestess Serena Whisperwind, who is leading the Chapter of her Faith in Lismore.

OOC Rules and Effects
  • Those who come to the shrine may feel more hopeful, their inner resolve restored and strengthened. They also may feel more confident in themselves and inspire it in others.
  • Those who live to serve and empower others feel more powerful around the shrine, while those abusing power and taking it from others will feel weaker.
  • The primary symbols of the faith are the sun, candles or other light sources, the dawn and the colors white and gold.
Heaven starts with a smile :)

 Vandruin's Shrine

Quick Rundown
  • Vandruin is a god representing wisdom, hunting and seeking, dreams, intuition, protection, guidance and transformation. While being father and patron god to the Tiwilder people, he is open to other followers. He respects strength (in various forms) and loyalty and is willing to focus on the deeds of a person, rather than fleeting renown.
  • Seldom appears or speaks to followers directly, but is known to send dreams and hint at opportunities or dangers with the call of the wolf or the appearance of a feral wolf in the distance.
  • The predatory scent of a wolf is always in the air around the shrine, as is a faint scent of blood. Some people swear on occasion they heard the statue either pant, growl or howl.
  • A priest or Godi, as he refers to himself, tends to the shrine and it's visitors. His name is Tierney and he is a Tiwilder. ((If you need to contact him, feel free to give Athian a poke here in the forum or in SL))

OOC Rules and Effects

  • The shrine usually instills a sensation of warmth, companionship and security among believers that come for a visit. Part of this stays for a while after the visit, resulting in a stronger resolve and courageousness to face ones problems or challenges.
  • Symbolic blood offerings are accepted at the shrine. Those who do usually experience a slight boost to their strength and virility under normal circumstances. If they are however ill or wounded, there is a chance of a slight boost to their recuperation. Note: The vessels with blood can't be used to gain organic components of other characters, since the blood offerings will be claimed by Vandruin, leaving behind only a generic blood liquid, nothing that could be used in other magic or rituals.
  • Those who are disloyal for selfish and unsound reasons may feel uncomfortable under the gaze of Vandruin's statue and will reap no benefits from their visit.
  • The shrine's attendant,Tierney, may provide tasks, counsel and further sacred rites.
The only way to get rid of temptation is to yield to it.

Araia's Shrine

Quick Rundown

  • Araia is a godess of Velidére, she represents the radiance of the holy light, justice, and mercy.
  • Her followers follow usually either path, justice or mercy. Few follow both at once.
Her light shines warmly in some dotted parts of the temple islands, but encompasses her shrine.
  • Araia is a 'young' godess, her influence and ability usually encompasses visual display of power.
Araia often takes the time to manifest her voice to her followers at her shrine, either praising or scolding them.

OOC Rules and Effects

  • The shrine's proximity feels warm and often protective to those with good intend when approaching the shrine.
It feels unwelcoming and seldomly painful to those with bad intentions.
  • Those of genuinely evil heart will feel pain when approaching Araia's shrine.
  • Araia's voice may sound soothingly from her statue when she feels the desire to speak to her followers.
Araia may give tasks to her followers, or send out mercy missions to spread her name while aiding others.
  • Anyone can follow Araia's faith to achieve radiance! Everybody can transcend what they were born as!
  • Araia's light can be wielded by demons and undead alike, if their faith is strong enough.
  • Araia's light does not harm demons with a good heart.
Long term disciples of Araia with demonic energies, or otherwise tainted bodies, may find their taint cured and removed.
Demonic long term disciples may find their demonic energies waning, or even completely purged and bathed with the light. Though that is up to the discretion of the player.
  • Zathiel usually can be found near the shrine, he tends to it and has taken the role as priest of Araia's faith in Lismore.
Zathiel can be approached for questions and requests.
