Resurrections and You!

So your character is dead. Congratulations, welcome to the afterlife! Oh, you're not ready for the afterlife yet? Well, here are your options....

Actually, don't be fooled by the text above, you don't have many options. It all depends on the manner of the death of your character.

Character resurrections are the strict domain of Lismore's staff, because it is basically re-approving a character to re-enter the game after they went through a process that's normally terminal. That's the technical aspect of it. Philosophically, it's like Ani explained to someone:

Character death is supposed to be a serious and impactive turn of events in a RP, and resurrections always diminish the impact. In Dragonball Z for example: First they say you can't come back, then they said you can only come back once, then apparently the gloves were off and you can always come back. Which made deaths in that series mean absolutely nothing.

So, if you plan to kill off one of your characters, and you expect them to be resurrected, you should always check with the staff before you do that. With the way character death is in Lismore, it's not possible to have your character die accidentally.... Well, someone managed to do it once, because they assumed they'd bleed to death, but no, the rule is that unless you are in a situation from which there is no probable escape, you decide whether your character dies or not from his injuries or whatever ails them.

And that brings us to the matter of character suicides. For your character to commit suicide, you must have willingly put effort into accomplishing that goal. It's not possible to "make a mistake" in a process that involves so many active decisions. Characters that committed suicide are not eligible for resurrections unless the staff determines that bringing them back would be good in some way to the RP.

And finally, I wish people would stop including manners of resurrecting themselves or worse, others, in their cards. It's in the Character Creation Guidelines (http://sculptyworks.com/lismore/index.php?topic=24.0) clearly marked as a banned/restricted ability. Why do I keep seeing it more and more on people's cards? It's in the general Rules, clearly marked with its own paragraph!

-SEMI-PERMANENT DEATH SIM:
We are known as a semi-permanent death sim, meaning if you character does die, they are not allowed to show back up at the island the next day in good heath. THEY ARE DEAD.
However, this does not mean that the character is gone for good. Listmore is a world of high fantasy, and resurections are not unheard of. It isn't something that is trivial, however. It is a process that needs to be an RP event, and approved by the GMs, as well as having other players (not your other accounts) involved in the process. Expect your character to be changed by the experiance, and to have to write not only an update to your character card, but some idea of what happened in their breif afterlife, as well as working people that can bring the Gods to your aide.

...Bottom line is: Please quit treating it like it's a trivial thing!
Like everything in the RP, if it makes for a good story for the RP or the people involved, if the staff determines it to be worthwhile, your character's unplanned death may be undone, but if we say 'no', please understand, and respect it.
