A book lays amongst the shelves of the library, a small strip of parchment hanging off of it advising the reader that the tome is incomplete, and that it should not be removed from the library.

I. A beginning

It is important to start this book by introducing myself and putting the subject at hand into perspective, so you understand the scope of both the subject, and the experience of the one writing it. I am an ex-necromancer, I once brazenly and bountifully wieleded the arts of necromancy to my own design. I can say that it is a powerful and addictive form of magic, and that it is evil and torturous by nature. Most think necromancy is simply the animation of a corpse, but it also tortures the soul once attatched to the corpse. There are more advanced forms of necromancy that cause less issues, but they are far from common.

Ia. The Undead

It's important to note that undead do not come in any one form. They are far reaching in strength and variety, from simple shambling corpses to powerful liches. Not all undead are evil, but by default, most are bound to the masters who raised them, and said masters are rarely, if ever, anything but evil. The weakness of one undead may not apply to another, so with all of this in mind, we can continue with an overview of some different common types.

Ib. Walking Dead

Either made of rotting flesh or bereft of it altogether, these are the very most common types of undead. Most of these types of undead are controlled via magic, though this is not always true. They tend to be slow, unintelligent and not amazingly strong, but they have a persistance that is only seen in the mindless dead, and are often present in horrifically large groups. While they are easy opponents individually, one must be wary of their numbers and the greater undead or the necromancer controlling them. The walking dead tend to be very weak against holy and fire based attacks, and can be dispatched quite easily. In some cases it has been shown as possible to capture a member of the walking dead and convert them to use for one's benifit - this art is difficult, though, and often involves a level of coercion that is ultimately not worth the trouble.
