Investigation Log: Disappearance of Mr. Thomas Cray
« on: February 13, 2019, 03:26:13 am »
<This is Obsidian's initial log>

Subject's full name is Mr. Thomas Cray, a male wolf of average stature.

The hotel staff remarked upon the disparity between his attire and the wealth that he wields, which was later confirmed in his notebook (copy attached below). His handwriting and prose presents him as a middle- to upper-class, averagely educated man of moderate means.
Why he would dress less than his stature is yet unclear.

While the more magically inclined are looking into the notebook's claims, I am acting on the assumption that Mr. Cray is currently suffering a delusional episode.

Mr. Cray exhibits some compulsive behaviour (he had arranged apples in a perfect circle on the table), and seemed to be expecting guests for the night before he left, having ordered a meal for two or three people.

Guardsman Kain went to follow up on the leads in the notebook.

<This is the discovered notebook>

Quote
This seems to be the notebook of a Mr. Thomas Cray. The cover it is bound in smells faintly of leather, and a bit of wolf. The handwriting is meticulous, although in the last few paragraphs it deteriorates somewhat, becoming rushed, almost erratic. There are not many entries in it, and it seems to have been recently bought, maybe even in Lismore. The first entry describes the arrival of Mr. Cray at the portal coming from the Old World. There had been no complications at the customs, as he had been taken for simply another traveler coming to see the wonders of this marvelous place in the Skylands. That seems to have pleased the mysterious Mr. Cray, since he made extra note of it here.

Upon inspection of the entries, the actually interesting bits appear right at the end. Before that there were simply a few accounts of how the local sights and people had intrigued him, and a slight regret that he would have not much time to indulge in his curiosity. The final paragraph though would certainly be cause for worry.

"Night falls. When I look outside the painted glass windows, I can see them lurking near the trees. Sometimes they sit on the branches, with dangling legs, like children do. But there are no children, only shadows and nightmares. They don't dare approach the hotel though. Too bright for them. And at least one of the big eared foxes here has some clerical background. I wish I was not as weakened as I am right now... trying to shake them off or make them lose my trail proved harder than anticipated. I will have to do something about this. The people here don't know about the things existing in the absence of light. I need to find that girl. I can sense her somewhere nearby. She has no clue what her talent truly is. And what she could do with it. I need to find her before THEY do. This night I will slip out for a spell and go hunt her down. Should not take long. Maybe take her with me to this room. Show her a few things. At the very least, warn her. Time's running out. Although there is no time. I can feel their hunger. It shall be denied."

There is a hasty addendum scribbled right under that paragraph: "Sensed her favorite place! Will use it as anchor. In the shadow of a tower looming, with the scent of the Abyss nearby. How fitting. Right between the holy and hell."
