The Winter of Their Discontent
« on: January 07, 2016, 02:17:31 pm »
In the shadow of the lavish festival going on in the city, the poorer residents of Lismore are seeking refuge in the caves. The homeless, the jobless, they all huddle together near campfires and try to get through the next day. The path leading to Lismore's underground becomes littered with the hungry and desperate, and resentment against the squeaky clean city and its well off citizens grows. The guard is watching this development with great concern.

(This is the start of the sim wide change/event that will see the creation of a poor people district/slum in the caves)

News! Yesterday violence erupted near the caves where a group of homeless people have made their camp. Several people were wounded and the most violent ones arrested. The citizens of Lismore are concerned about this development. There is already talk to put up permanent guards near the apartment tower to protect the upper class from the commoners. But the masses of less fortunate cant be quelled that easily. With the trade with ther Crimson and Steel Empire and the new influx of people wanting to make a living in the realm of Lismore, the city cannot sustain everyone at an acceptable level. The guard promises to have everything under control, but their reach dimishes beyond the marble halls and golden estates of the rich and powerful.

Rumors! Word on the street is that the number of homeless are increasing and crime amongst the desperate and poor is on the rise. There is also some power hierarchy slowly establishing by means of coercion and suppression. There are also those who whisper in hushed voices about some powerful foreign investors who are putting money into a project that will see cheap homes built inside the caves.

The situation is slowly spiraling out of control and the city and guard is mostly powerless, so far trying to stem the tide of the unwashed masses from spilling over into the city. The cemetery as well as the mushroom farms cant be reached anymore without the risk of being robbed or assaulted by the more violent of the slum residents. The same goes for the expensive machinery responsible for the heating of the city's mansions, since the heating tanks are hot spots for the homeless during the harsh winter season, who will fight for their place near a warm source.
