An Ancient Journal

(This information is currently not known ICly, until it is found!)

Entry One

I would share the date with you, if I knew it. I wanted to start writing my thoughts in these pages, because i'm not sure how things are going to go once I start my journey for knowledge. My name is Volk, I am a hunter of knowledge and arcane power.

I have to admit, early on, that there's a noteable amount of greed in my quest.. I already possess alot of both, but I can't seem to get enough. The perks and benefits that such power and knowledge bring have been irresistible! I have mountains of gold, and I could have just about any woman I want, all while helping people! I suppose there are many who would be happy with just that, but..

Tommorow, i'm meeting with some monks. They call themselves Arcane Zealots, and have spent decades of their life up in the mountains, studying and practicing their art. I'm eager to see them, and to try and learn from them. I'll write again soon, whether or not they teach me!

Entry Two

The monks have accepted me as a student! I can't possibly express how exciting this is. Their grandmaster, Haung Yu, is a very powerful and knowledgeable man. The monastery's library is filled to the brim with all sorts of tomes on magic and meditation, and the peace and tranquility this high up in the mountains lends itself perfectly to reading and training with the monks.

Their clarity of mind is impressive - I think i'm going to learn alot here.

The only thing is, I feel like they're not sharing everything with me.. Maybe they just don't trust me yet? I did just get here, after all!

Entry Three

I'm sorry I haven't written anything in the past week - the training and studying has been keeping me occupied.

This place is wonderful - i've actually gotten sweet on one of the monks. She's incredibly intelligent and one of the monastery's most powerful monks - she's a raven, and she has the most beautiful eyes!

I was expecting alot out of this place, but i've already been shown more than I ever expected.

Still.. There's something hiding. I've asked Master Haung Yu about it, but he's quick to change the subject. The monk I met, her name is Aurora, she promised to help me gain access to their forbidden knowledge. She's read through it herself - I respect people who don't let silly things like this get in the way of learning.

Entry Four

Well.. I suppose I can see why these scrolls are forbidden.

In it's deep and distant past, the monks of the mountain were cultists, worshippers of a great demon. I wish I knew his name, but it seems to be burned out of every single scroll!

Even though I consider it having been a wise choice to hide the knowledge within.. This could be big! Huge! I HAVE to persue it.

Aurora seems concerned, but I know she'll come around. She's smart, and her passion for knowledge is just as burning as mine.

I'll finish my training in the coming month, and will take Raven with me to track down the source of this forbidden knowledge.

Entry Five

That didn't happen like it was supposed to.

Me and Aurora visited the chamber of forbidden knowledge once more, but found it empty! I sought out the grandmaster with her, and.. Demanded that he give me the scrolls. He looked hurt what must have seemed like our betrayal.. That wasn't it at all. He was just... In the way.

Aurora's still shocked about what I did to Master Yu.. But.. It was the right thing to do, i'm sure. Nobody should keep anyone else from the knowledge they seek... Right?

.. Right?

.. He'll live either way, i'm sure. Me and Aurora found the scrolls and left. I think now would be a good time to find some sort of base of operations, that we may conduct our research uninterrupted.

Entry Six

It's been a few months, I know. I'm sorry again, but our search kept us quite busy.

We've gone all the way out to the grand Iro Desert, and settled in at an abandoned castle named Bonebrood Keep. It's perfect - spacious, secluded.. We couldn't ask for a better location.

Aurora says she finds it creepy, but she's been warming up to it. Once we're done with all this, i'm thinking of asking her to start a family with me..

But no time to think about that now. We've got alot of work ahead of us.

These scrolls are amazing! Such vast quantities of ancient knowledge locked inside. Me and Aurora have been studying them endlessly. In fact, I think we're ready to perform the first and most important ritual we've derived from this work.. Immortality!

We could never study and unlock all of the secrets that these ancient texts have given us access to in a lifetime. But that won't be a problem soon!

I'll write again to relay news of our success?

Entry Eight

Oh god. Oh god, oh god, oh god...

She's dead. I thought we'd considered everything, thought of all contingencies, but she's DEAD! My sweet raven...

It tore her soul right out of her. I'm... I'm immortal now, I can feel it. But the price...

The price was far too high.

Aurora... I'm so sorry.

It's been two months. I can do nothing but sit and stare at these cursed scrolls.

The monks were right to protect this knowledge. I should have seen the risk.

Life isn't worth living without her.

I'll use this accursed knowledge to send myself to her, now.

Entry Eleven

You might think that since i'm writing another entry, that I must have failed in my attempts...

But you would be wrong. The spell killed me, but my soul was drawn into... I suppose what was once a suitable vessel.

And yet, I write, even now, with my own hands. I feel as cold as ice, and yet I don't shiver... I don't even feel discomfort.

I'll write again when I learn more.

But none of that matters now, because i've discovered who wrote these scrolls.

I'll make them pay, these 'arutal'. One way or another.

Entry Thirteen

It has been three months. This will be my final entry.

I have forgotten my old name and my old life, not that they matter anymore.

I will now be known as Azoth, and my purpose revenge. I will use the cursed arcane power these scrolls granted me to destroy those who created them!

~Azoth, Arch-Necromancer, Pre-dating his invitation into Doncoutle's court.
