For a variety of reasons, I'm going to be considerably less present in Lismore for an indefinite amount of time.

General Discussion / Re: The Weather and You!
« on: March 31, 2014, 06:51:42 pm »
In my opinion the weather system only encourages characters grouping up in locations where maybe others wouldn't, either due to the location itself or just being an inconvenient place to go to during bad weather and there being much closer, reasonable alternatives but end up with a character stuck there. I don't fancy the idea of all days being bright and sunshine and rainbows mind you, but between the unrealistic alternative or the possibility of promoting closed RP groups, I'd rather the unrealistic.

@ Radem - I like your idea.

@ Athian - What about in a situation where your character is interacting with another, and the weather changes, but you agree that it's best to ignore it, then a *different* character or group comes across and warns yours about the bad weather? It's just as much an inconvenience, if you're aiming to be hanging around in the open, accessible to anyone.

Call to Roleplaying / Stuck in the mud
« on: March 20, 2014, 11:47:21 am »
I'm aware this is somewhat of a selfish post to make but the title describes how I feel about the state my characters are in. So, to try and drag myself out of this and get re-inserted back into Lismore, I'm leaving this here just to put it on blast that I'm willing to hear any and all ideas that could involve a character of mine and bounce back and forth until something can be worked out.

Heavy emphasis on *ANY* ideas. If anyone wants to bring something, I'd prefer to be talked to by IMs on SL. And, just in case whoever reads this doesn't know, my SL name is "wolf601 Resident". The "Character Lookup" sticky in General Discussions has a post with my characters and a colorful description, if anyone would like to know more you can contact me and I'll give a few snippets.

Lismore City / Re: Bring out your Dead! (the graveyard / cemetery debate)
« on: November 20, 2013, 09:42:29 am »
Every city should have a graveyard. It's only a benefit for health safety and even just to fulfill ancient traditions of giving people one final place of rest for their souls to depart from.

That said, I don't think it's needed on-sim. A consumption of space and resources that could be put to better use on things that will be *actively* used and with decent frequency. I don't see a lot of folks hanging around a graveyard for your every-day RP. Though what's to stop us from agreeing that there *is* a graveyard somewhere, just not represented?

Like Athian pointed out, there's theoretically a much higher population in Lismore than just the player base. Keeping that in mind though, there's a distinct lack of houses that'd hold all these people, not enough inn rooms, and so on and so forth. But no one brings this up and I can only assume it's an unspoken rule that there *are* housings for the whole NPC population. Why not do the same with the graveyard? There *is* one, it's just not spoken about.

General Discussion / Re: The Forest Debate!
« on: November 18, 2013, 07:16:02 am »
I don't want to give a lot of input on what the "style" of the forest would be, because I don't understand enough about modding and such to guess what would be possible to do and not. So, with that in mind, I think that a forest island in general would just benefit the RP. There's plenty of characters that are more nature-inclined, or just people that would prefer spaces outside of the city. The island that holds Cruentus, I believe, doesn't fit for this because while there's plenty of greenery around, it has too much occupying it  to make it good to hang around in. The one next to the Temple-island is better, but having a whole island dedicated to a more fleshed-out forest environment would be ideal.

Vote yes.

Documents / Re: Lismore Official IC Roles

By that logic, doesn't that make this list just as redundant as there's already the other list to go look at? It was there first.

General Discussion / Re: Character Lookup!
« on: November 10, 2013, 04:09:39 am »
I guess I'll chip in, this seems like a fairly good idea. Personal note though, all information I list is to be assumed would be easily found out and I consent people's characters knowing this information IC.

Account: wolf601 Resident

  • Lou - Wolf - Assistant Librarian in Lismore with a humble home downtown, commonly seen in glimpses around town in a dark cloak. Usually there's a light scent of mixed chemicals near her home. She's been seen aiding Lismore in several struggles in recent years with good hand-to-hand combat and improvised weaponry but has no known allegiance. Sometimes, in older days, spotted having conversations with people of clearly questionable reputation. Background unknown and seemingly came to public light out of thin air. Used to refer to herself as "Jade" but has since introduced herself by real name.
  • Daniel - Wolf/Hyena mixed breed - A slave belonging to Zeela Soulstar known for a remarkable short temper and being unruly. Most of his public sightings are either by Zeela's side or tending to her stall, The Cat's Eye. Questionable intelligence as he's been seen having some difficulties reading his own price sheets and with more bulk than brains. He doesn't hide his past and it's well known he used to be a pit-fighter that caused his owners problems, being passed from hand to hand frequently. Unquestionably loyal to his owner however as he's spoken about throwing himself into danger for her, literally punching Demons and Liches in the face doing so. Friends and other slaves around him have noted that he has disturbed dreams but hasn't shared any information about such.
  • Marianna Angelo - Cheetah - A Templar to the Sun God, Pelor, stationed in Lismore of her own desire. Heavily biased against many common behaviors and people, the typical goodie-two-shoes. Despite the almost royal appearance of her armor, rumor has it she's lived in poverty and off the kindness of her only family member since coming to Lismore. Seen just about every day training in the arena or meditating near the beach, when not on some duty. Hard-headed and easy to get her blood boiling in a battle, but has shown to be an experienced and seriously trained soldier that only gives up when she can't move anymore. Fought with Lismore in the battle that made the island be taken to the sky, even being one of the temporary casualties.
  • Vim - Very short wolf - Self-proclaimed genius of magic and making sure people know about it, exceptionally cheerful and friendly even without being drunk. Has a tendency to love mundane pleasures and luxuries. Questionable morals and background as she often retells stories of being banished from towns for her studies and speaking very casually of matters normal people would find macabre, such as living experiments and using magic arts normally considered taboo. Not known to be an enemy to Lismore however and has boasted of trying to help some of Lismore's residents, but being rejected.
  • Leonardo Soulstar - Siamese housecat - Brother to Zeela Soulstar and son of Xela and the deceased Hazel, a rarely seen and probably hyperactive feline. Trained from multiple sources to have a body build and skills to be a hunter but with no known accomplishments so far. Despite having easy access to social power, wealth and just about anything else, Leo is known to choose the hard way of doing things for himself. Socially incompetent as most conversations he stutters and avoids saying much to people he's unfamiliar or uncomfortable with. Occasionally visits the city for various reasons but is mostly known to stay in the forests. Has some kind of wind magic as one incident he was seen being propelled into the air.
  • Nadya Monisha - White cat - Currently a soldier in the Zenko forces and an assistant in the Alchemy guild, a widow that's said to be trying to fulfill their mate's ambition herself after their death. Known for commonly being kind to just about anyone though clear from mannerisms and speech to not be a trained, battle-hardened soldier as the thought of battling and injury visibly disturbs her when brought up. Known to be a rather experienced sorceress, however using antiquated methods that compromise her potential. Rumor has it she has been making her own curatives, healing potions and medical supplies to help the infirmary keep stocked and even sneaking some out to people in need for free with the help of another alchemist.
  • Aramok Siegemaker - Panda - Architect that's recently settled into Lismore. Known projects include re-working the bath house and the Valentine household, currently employed by Phoenix to work on its clock tower. Sometimes seen with a rather vacant expression and frequently talking to himself while sculpting as a hobby. Mostly distant from people and known to have a fear of heights when going down the Phoenix stairs and possibly an aversion to women for some reason. No stranger to the hard work part of construction, has been seen helping his crews with buildings. During one incident in Phoenix where it was untimely attacked, workers hiding in the clock tower saw the panda help defend against the bandits and get attacked with a sword, but with no damage from the blow.
  • Jack - Raven - One-armed woman normally seen in an up-beat mood and wandering the city. Introduces herself as a bounty hunter and a business associate of Zeela, walks lightly armed(pun intended). Polite mannerisms for the most part and known to be unusually eager to go into dangerous situations. Most often seen in the inn playing cards with the odd patron, having her own deck with her at all times. Rumor has it there was some trouble on her arrival into the city concerning bounties on her head and people wanting to collect them. Also known to have very good voice skills, usually mimicking a variety of noises and other people's voices, though she favors whistling when she's not talking to someone.

General Discussion / Re: To Hide or not to Hide!
« on: October 18, 2013, 08:28:59 pm »
I voted but I'll just elaborate a bit - probably not worth the hassle, Ash. Griefing can mostly be stopped by just muting, derendering, yatta yatta, and it's a rare enough event to not warrant the risk of new people or regulars who might not have the radar out think that the sim is empty when it might be populated.

General Discussion / What is your Throne?
« on: September 29, 2013, 01:13:23 pm »
So a few days back I saw a movie, The Thirteenth Warrior. While watching this movie, at the last battle scene, one of the warriors who is at the brink of death and kills the Big Bad Guy, drops to a seat on some piece of wood that was once a make-shift barricade with his sword at his side. The attackers retreat, and the warrior dies there in his seat.

When watching this I realized that the seat and posture looked kind of like sitting on a throne, and it brought a deeper message in the fight. The warrior died where he should have, in a grand battle, and for a moment he was the King on the field. And this made me start thinking, and to make this post...

If your characters had personal thrones, what would they be like? Their design, decorations, locations, all of these factors embodying the personality, actions and purpose of the character. It brings about an interesting way of imagining one's own, and other people's, characters by trying to fit everything that they are into a single image, a throne room.

So go ahead folks, if you want to. Imagine your characters in their personal, custom created kingdoms and the seat they rule them from, and share it.

Call to Roleplaying / Character acquaintances!
« on: August 30, 2013, 12:37:58 pm »
So, I'm coming up with a character, still needing to be approved and all that sass, but I'll be honest - it gets rather tiring to always have characters that are complete newcomers to the island and come here with absolutely no real idea about anything.

So I was wondering if anyone wanted to get in touch and make an agreement for acquaintances for this new character of mine! Maybe mine and yours have crossed paths some time before? Maybe even crossed swords? Done the devil's dance together or maybe the tongue tango? Find me on-sim, or if you can't, just post something here and I'll try to be extra-active to find you and talk it out.

Call to Roleplaying / Re: Kobold Wanted!
« on: July 08, 2013, 02:17:51 am »
He means the type of Kobold from WoW which are small rat-like things that live in big packs, generally in mines, and are very "simple" in thought, so much that they give very high value to their precious candles that they keep on mining hats over their heads and have become known for screaming "You no take candle!" when a player approaches a hostile one.

General Discussion / Your character, their life, and their ambitions.
« on: June 09, 2013, 08:04:15 pm »
Wooo-hooo, first actual thread started on the forums!

So, this is something I've actually been pondering lately. Since the RP has been forcefully changed to its new location, and the IC reason given behind it, I've felt at a huge loss as to what to do to get myself interested in RPing in Lismore more actively. I haven't shown up frequently at all recently because I didn't know what to do - there are no major plots going on and I have a very tough time with wanting to carry out(or take part in other's) personal plots. Though for the past couple of days, I've been going through some thoughts in my head about my characters and my part in Lismore, and it's risen some questions, which I'll pose to everyone.

What are my character's immediate desires, their long-term goals, and their final ambitions?

There are clear differences between all of these. An immediate desire would be to defend one's family, or to study a particular art or language. A long-term goal would be, for example, to set up a shop, or make a living from a known and well practiced trade like smithing or pottery. Final ambition would be what I'd define as the one thing that would give the character complete peace with their life. The one thing that would make them truly say, "now I can die happy".

When thinking about these questions, I realized that many of my characters have many immediate desires, but few well-defined long term plans, and even fewer final ambitions, and when I started  to think about all of this, it's re-ignited some of my spark to RP again, with my characters having well defined goals and things to strive for.

So what's this thread for? Well, for anyone wanting to post their opinion, but also to - if anyone wants, of course - share their own character's ambitions. I will for mine.

Louise
Immediate desires: To help secure what's left of the city/island using her connections to weed out threats that may still be around.

Long-term plans: Establish a web of contacts that will reliably keep her up to date with events in and outside of the city/island so she can be quickly react to new occurrences.

Final ambitions: Legally own a home to live with someone she cares for, without worrying about anything past "what to cook tonight".

Daniel
Immediate desires: Work as best he can, work as hard as he can for his owner, protect his owner at all costs.

Long-term plans: Discover what the Hell those weird dreams and flashes in his head mean and why he keeps getting them more and more vividly.

Final Ambitions: To depart from the living with the knowledge that he has squeezed every ounce of strength from his body to do everything he can for others.

Vim
Immediate desires: Get a steady supply of vodka and then find a way to work with the Zenko to investigate magical matters.

Long-term plans: One, to investigate the old events of the "Mana Vortex" and what kind of magic is keeping the city in its current state. Two, to explore the limits of Tass and Magic, elemental or not, particularly with the more magic-attuned creatures. Three, investigate the limits and potential applications for "forbidden" schools of magic and their practical uses.
Four, discover how to get drunk without a hangover.

Final ambitions: Obtain omniscience.

Marianna
Immediate Desires: Ensure the city is protected from potential threats both inside and outside and make sure people, particularly those close to her, are staying on the road of virtue.

Long-term plans: Attempt to convince the city to implement more strict control laws to cut down crime rates, particularly to restrict the possibility of civilians of the "unholy" persuasion from becoming out of control.

Final ambitions: To "pave the road" for a better world, one hinging on justice and control of oneself and others, one city at a time.

Nadya
Immediate desires: Slowly develop her magical abilities while laying her already well-practiced skills to their fullest use, to aid the city in recovery to normality.

Long-term plans: Secure a good, stable, healthy life for her and the people she's quickly becoming closer to.

Final ambitions: Go through with the desires of her late mate to obtain the state of "perfect enlightenment", whatever that might mean.

Leonardo
Immediate desires: One, experiment with a bunch of worldly pleasures. Two, hone and sharpen his own skills with archery and in particular, trapping. Three, learn how to catch, tame and train his own snake.

Long-term plans: Familiarize himself with nature and to prove himself to be a natural predator on the top of the food chain.

Final ambitions: Open other people's eyes to the beautiful reality of complete and total freedom, freedom from social dependencies and materialistic needs and greed.

Edits done were only typo corrections, sorry guys I typed this up at 4 in the morning.

General Discussion / Re: The Cape versus The Normal
« on: May 22, 2013, 04:37:27 am »
I don't really know who this is aimed at since I don't know other people's characters *that* in-depth, with the exception of a sparse few. But, I'll speak for myself, I have some STRONG characters, and I have some weak ones, the only common thing between them being that they all have varying abilities and knowledge that can be put to use for combat. As for "social success", I don't consider most of mine would normally be that kind. One who has a deathly fear of being too close to others - another who has a bigoted and biased dislike for a majority of the city's population just based on what they are - another who's a slave and entirely dependent on being told what to do.

I do gear-up and kit my characters to fit specific purposes, their specialties which they excel at, but not be terribly good at many other things. A Paladin is a trump card against opponents that are unholy. but in a city filled to the brim with them, how well are they going to get along socially with most of the city? A slave that knows how to brawl and beat someone to a pulp, but is completely ignorant as to how to use a weapon, how is he going to fight against an armored soldier with a claymore if the situation rose?

Either way, I think you can't really accurately judge a character's power level(god someone shoot me for actually saying that) by eavesdropping on conversations. What you don't always learn from eavesdropping is the weaknesses the characters have, the flaws that could break them, the "skeletons in the closet" that could turn everyone in the city against them. Some very strong characters sometimes come with very big weaknesses that are right under your nose, just not immediately obvious.
