This is what's been consimung my time and sanity and health for the past many days: We've been doing renovation work here in the house. The major job was to gut the middle bathroom and re-do the whole thing! ...and by that it should mean simply take off the drywall walls, floor, the old tub, vanity, sink, toilet, and put new ones in there.
Well, like pretty much all renovation work, specially those done in houses that are 40 or more years old, there were problems.
First I encountered asbestos tiles on the floor. Then completely imporperly done plumbing pretty much throughout the entire bathroom. Oh, and with leaks! ...and those leaks caused a vigorous amount of mold to grow under the house! ...did I meantion the improper plumbing? Yeah I can't get over that. We had copper pipes going into brass fixtures that went into copper pipes that went into bronze fixtures with nickel fasteners... corrosion paradise! Oh and it all tied up (with leaks) into the new plastic pipes that went elsewhere in the house, and earlier today I found an old lead pipe just hanging in there... so yeah, the plumbing almost drove me mad.
So, with those problems slowly dealt with one by one, doing new plumbing, putting down porcelain tiles on the floor, new tub, new vanity/sink, today I put the finishing touches and the bathroom is done. It's an unjustifiable amount of work for a piddly 5x8 little bathroom, but hey, it had to be done. So here are some pics.

Tye's mom always does the decorations, but we felt her measly deer and strings of lights were too little, so Tye and I outlined the house with lights this year. It was cold, dark, and took way too long and will be a pain to take it all out after xmas, but oh well looks pretty. :)

It looks great. Well worth the effort you put into it, Ash. If I had my own house instead of living in a flat I would try and decorate it from the outside, too. Until then, I am content putting lights into the windows and have some real candles on my table. And on that cue: A happy 4th of Advent to everyone! :)

I am posting this here cause, while it is not just a random photo for me, and rather personal, I don't think It warrants it's own topic, nonetheless, it is something I would like to finally share.
This is my memorial to my mother, since I did not want to have an urn myself yet I did want her to have a place in my home, a place where I could keep the hanger with her ash in it safe. I eventually came up with this:

The two small plushies and the owl candle are things I was given by her, the wooden bowl like thing, the squirrel, the two candle holders and the two fall/forest puppets I bought specifically for this memorial, as they were things that she would have bought herself. This picture was taken around early fall last year.

Now this is the recent update I made today, the glass marble (yes, it's a giant marble) is something I was given by her as well, and it looks nice so I added it. The gravel however is the main piece of the addition and the thing that completes it. This gravel comes from the nearby racing circuit called the TT circuit, it is a place that holds many of the greater motor events like the Moto GP and Superbikes as well as other races, both cars and bikes. She was a medical that frequently stood at the circuit at one of the several posts at the corners. This gravel is from the one post she stood most frequently, taken from the gravel that's at the corners. Seeing as her voluntary work at the TT Circuit was a major part of her life, it felt fitting to include it.
Adding of the gravel was also that which completes the memorial, and it feels good to have it finally complete now.

Welp. I knew this was a dangerous place when I moved here, but still... had my first attempted home invasion tonight. Dunno who they are or what they were after (I speculate they might've been drug dealers wanting to get the guy that lived here before me??? Drugs happen in my neighbourhood), but I somehow managed to stop them. Happened way too fast, I don't really remember how atm... I'm just grateful I had the foresight to buy a hammer when I moved here. Police got here, took them away. Gonna make a full statement tomorrow when my heart's calmed down & I've had rest.
They got me pretty good tho. I've no idea what they got me with, but it still hurts like fucking hell. Guess I'm lucky it wasn't any worse.

SL, when you log out, always makes a screen shot of the last view it sees, and sometimes, it makes for great screenshots.
In my case, this was from when I logged out the last time, I found it good enough to dig into my appdata and retrieve it, saving it as a png file (SL uses that clunky bmp format)
